Blue Marble Ice Cream

Blue Marble Ice Cream was established in April 2007 by friends Alexis Miesen and Jennie Dundas. Alexis came to Blue Marble after a ten-year career in international development, and Jennie came from an established career as a stage and film actress.

The company opened its first location in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn in October, 2007 and followed with a second location in nearby Prospect Heights. Soon after, Blue Marble Ice Cream became a staple of the Brooklyn Flea locations in Fort Greene and DUMBO (Brooklyn Bridge) as well as the exclusive ice cream provider of Governors Island. 2009 saw Blue Marble make its US Open debut selling their famous strawberry ice cream as well as their first out of state venture at Rubiner’s Cheesemongers in Great Barrington, MA. In 2010, you can look forward to the opening of the new location on Court Street, a repeat performance at the US Open, and much, much more.

Additionally, Blue Marble Ice Cream won the 2009 Time Out New York Reader’s Choice Award, the Snail of Approval Award from Slow Food NYC, was a Greenopia Distinguished Business in 2008-2009,  and published in Zagat Survey New York City Food Lovers Guide 2010, and reviews in the New York Times, Travel and Leisure, Edible Brooklyn, AM New York, The New Yorker, Daily Candy, NFT New York, and Urban Baby Daily.

I had the pleasure of visiting Inzozi Nziza while in Butare. We have been working with the NUR with capacity building in the Department of Anesthesia and only visited Butare for a few days. In that few days we thoroughly enjoyed the selection of ice cream, coffee and treats. I look forward to checking out the Blue Marble Ice Cream the next time I visit NY. This is a great endeavour / partnership.
